The City of Phoenix Street Transportation Department is implementing key safety, capacity and drainage improvements along a four-mile stretch of Happy Valley Road from 67th Avenue to 35th Avenue. This major roadway project is expected to start in late-September 2025 and be completed in fall 2027.

Currently, the roadway varies between two and three travel lanes in each direction, with intermittent curb, gutter, sidewalk, raised medians, and bike lanes. The city will be widening Happy Valley Road, installing drainage infrastructure to manage runoff from Ludden Mountain, and adding key safety features to prevent collisions and protect vulnerable road users.

Join Downtown Phoenix Inc. on Thursday, September 18, from 6-9 p.m. at Two Renaissance Square Plaza (40 N Central Ave.) for an evening of cultural celebration. Enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine, lively music, a pop-up market by Mujeres Mercado, a hands-on craft station with The Crafty Chica, appearances by the Dancing Katrinas with the Cultural Coalition, and a community-led Lotería game with prizes. This event honors Hispanic traditions, uplifts local Hispanic-owned businesses, and celebrates the diversity and vibrancy of Downtown Phoenix.

The Goelet A. C. Beuf Senior Center, Parks and Recreation, and the Phoenix Families First Resource Center are hosting a Fun Fair Health and Wellness Community Event. The event is scheduled for Friday, October 10, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Goelet A. C. Beuf Community Center, located at 3435 W. Pinnacle Peak Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85027. This is a free, non-profit event.

This health and wellness event aims to acquaint elders, families, and all community members with local agencies that provide social services and healthcare. It is also an opportunity to network and build strong partnerships and collaborations. This event brings community residents together and encourages them to become and remain active in their community. The fair will feature information booths, a blood drive, an immunization clinic, activities, and raffle prizes.

Celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month this September. Getting a Phoenix Public Library card is easy and free for Maricopa County residents. Just bring a valid photo ID to any library branch and unlock access to books, eBooks, computers, Wi-Fi, Culture Passes, and more. Visit phoenixpubliclibrary.org to learn more.

The City of Phoenix Lockbox Program allows firefighters to gain entry to your home in case of emergency without causing any damage to your residence. This is done by utilizing a key that you provide in a secure lockbox attached to your entryway. This program not only provides free lockboxes to those vulnerable Phoenix residents; it also allows those who already have their own lockbox in place to register their lockbox code with the fire department.

Who qualifies? Free lockboxes are donated by the Phoenix Area Association of Realtors and are distributed on a first come, first served basis to vulnerable Phoenix residents who are 55+, have special needs or mobility issues.

On Monday, July 28, 2025, a collaborative Crime Suppression Project spanning across the Cactus Park Precinct (900) and the Desert Horizon Precinct (600) commenced in order to drive down violent crime and address numerous quality of life issues that plague these precincts. The plan is to have these efforts continue through August with the possibility of expanding into September.

The areas that were primarily targeted were the 19th and 27th Avenue Corridor. Among the many partners that are currently involved in the project are: Transit Unit / Gang Enforcement Unit / Traffic Bureau / Adult Probation / Human Exploitation and Trafficking Unit / City of Phoenix Parks / Office of Homeless Solutions / Neighborhood Services Division.

"Operation New Beginning," was a multi-agency effort to combat prostitution and provide support for potential victims in the North 27th Avenue corridor, specifically between Indian School Road and Bethany Home Road. The operation, led by the Grand Canyon University Police Department (GCU PD), involved collaboration with the Phoenix Police Department's Human Exploitation and Trafficking (HEAT) Unit, the Glendale Police Department, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and the Phoenix Family Advocacy Center.

The primary goal of Operation New Beginning was to reduce prostitution activity and offer comprehensive victim advocacy and support services to anyone identified as a victim. By combining the resources and expertise of multiple agencies, the operation aimed to create a safer environment for residents and the more than 25,000 students at GCU.

Undercover prostitution operations were conducted by the Phoenix HEAT Unit and the Glendale Fugitive Apprehension Unit. Once a suspect was identified, the Cactus Park Precinct's Resource Team, including the Neighborhood Enforcement Team and Community Action Officers, conducted overt stops and made the arrests.

All arrestees were transported to a nearby processing area. There, personnel from GCU PD, the Glendale Police Department, and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office completed the booking process before transporting the individuals to jail. A victim advocate was present on-site throughout the operation to make contact with each person arrested.

Between August 15 and August 17, the operation resulted in 47 arrests for misdemeanor prostitution. Two of the individuals arrested were repeat offenders within the three-day period. Additionally, one juvenile victim of child sex trafficking was recovered.

The collaborative effort between precincts and different details throughout the city was nothing short of phenomenal. The quality of life improved for the constituents of both the Cactus Park Precinct and the Desert Horizon Precinct.

The City of Phoenix is ready to launch the community survey. This survey asks questions on a wide range of topics around life in our community, from what residents think is working, to where they see a need for improvement, providing feedback that is used to calculate ongoing satisfaction scores. The survey is one more way to gather information from residents in our effort to more holistically understand neighborhood issues and enhance our responsiveness to community priorities.

The survey takes less than five minutes to complete and is available in both English and Spanish. The survey system sets response targets based on Census data to ensure community representation. Survey responses will be anonymous.

The survey is served up to residents on various websites and social media platforms. Residents can also respond to the survey directly with this link.

We’ve also created a survey landing page on Phoenix.gov to answer questions, including the security and privacy of the survey.
