A message from

Councilman Kevin Robinson

The month of October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the start of the city’s Paint PHX Purple Campaign. Paint PHX Purple aims to increase community awareness about domestic violence. The purpose of this month is to raise awareness about domestic violence, its effects, and provide resources for survivors. Every minute, 20 people are physically abused by an intimate partner in the U.S., which equates to over 10 million victims each year. Phoenix is committed to becoming a national leader in preventing and responding to domestic violence.

If you are being abused, it is important to know that you've done nothing to deserve abuse. Leaving can be difficult, but it is not impossible. You can change your circumstances today!

If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence, please call 1-800-799-SAFE (7233).

Thank you,

Kevin Robinson

City of Phoenix Councilman, District 6

Paint PHX Purple

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month . The purpose of this month is to raise awareness about domestic violence, its effects, and resources for survivors. This month, let us make a conscious effort to educate ourselves, promote prevention tools, and encourage those around you to act against domestic violence. In 2013, the City of Phoenix created the "Roadmap to Excellence: making the City of Phoenix a National Leader in Preventing and Ending Domestic Violence" along with an awareness campaign called "Paint Phoenix Purple".

Abuse isn’t always physical, it can be emotional and sexual, it can also be, controlling your finances to make you dependent, threatening to harm or take away your children or pets, extreme jealousy when you spend time away from them, isolating you from friends and family, and pressuring you to have or perform sex acts you are not comfortable with.

If you are being abused, it is important to know that you've done nothing to deserve abuse. Leaving can be difficult, but it is not impossible. You can change your circumstances today!

Phoenix Pride is a significant celebration of the LGBTQ+ community, promoting acceptance and diversity while raising awareness. It serves as a platform for advocacy, fostering connections among individuals and allies and creating a supportive environment. By increasing visibility for LGBTQ+ individuals, Phoenix Pride combats stigma and promotes understanding, which embodies inclusivity and celebration within the community.

Attending Phoenix Pride this year was truly special. The energy was great, and I felt an overwhelming sense of community. It was heartwarming to see everyone gathered together to celebrate love and acceptance. Walking with fellow City of Phoenix staff, meeting new faces, and seeing other familiar ones reminded me just how powerful our community is.

G.A.I.N. (Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods) is a day for Arizona to join forces and promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity. G.A.I.N. showcases the importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight for a safer Arizona.

This year we celebrated the Kick-Off at Christown Spectrum Mall. District 6 had a table with an array of tchotchkes for anyone that stopped by.

On November 19th, I had the privilege of attending the groundbreaking ceremony for PHX Fire Station #74. This station will mark the fourth addition to the fire services in Ahwatukee, highlighting our commitment to enhancing public safety as our city continues to grow and evolve.

The dedicated firefighters who work tirelessly to serve our community truly deserve such an exceptional facility that will support their vital efforts. I am immensely grateful to be a part of this important process and look forward to witnessing the positive impact this new fire station will have upon its completion.
