After Dark in the Park

Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the After Dark in the Park event at Deer Valley Park, 19602 N. 19th Ave on June 24, 2023. This annual fireworks event includes live entertainment, kid zone, food trucks and community resource booths. The event is in need of volunteers from 4:30 pm - 10:00 pm, to assist with parking lot duties, inflatable jumper supervision, park patrol, water distribution, and set up/break down.

Light Up the Sky

Light Up the Sky is one of the longest running Independence Day celebrations in the Maryvale area. The event features bounce houses, games, mascots from local teams, food, and community vendors. Attendees can play on the American Family Fields of Phoenix Baseball Stadium field and run through an obstacle course. The night will culminate in a 20-minute live fireworks display accompanied by patriotic music.

Volunteers are needed on July 1 from 4:30 pm - 10:00 pm, to assist with parking lot duties, Kid Zone and train ride supervision, park patrol, water distribution, crowd/line management, mascot guides, lost and found attendants, and set up/break down.

AmeriCorps VISTA Opportunity

AmeriCorps VISTA members dedicate a year to serving full-time in nonprofit organizations and government agencies. During their terms of service, VISTA members build the capacity of organizations established to alleviate poverty by developing sustainable programs in fundraising, volunteer coordination, and project management. AmeriCorps VISTA members and Summer Associates receive a poverty-level stipend to better understand the lives of the clients they serve.

Currently, the City of Phoenix has a vacant AmeriCorps position in the newly established Office of Public Health and seeking candidates to serve.

The Human Services Campus is coordinating a Project Connect event for June 15, 2023, at the Sunnyslope Family Service Center, 914 W. Hatcher from 8 am – 3 pm.

Volunteers are needed for the following shifts:

6am-8am (set-up)
7am-3pm (full day)
7am-11:30am (morning)
11am-3:30pm (afternoon)
2pm-4pm (breakdown)

Volunteer in the Classroom with Your Experience Counts

HandsOn Greater Phoenix is seeking positive role models with daytime availability to support classroom teachers during the 23-24 school year. Volunteers spend 2+ hours/week assisting students in literacy, math, and/or science in small groups or one-on-one.
