2025PrideMonth Social Event
On Friday, June 6, 2025, the City’s LGBTQ Employee Alliance hosted a vibrant Pride Month Social at Charlie’s Phoenix, in partnership with Strategic Initiatives’ Fast Track Cities. From 5 to 7 p.m., Phoenix city employees and community members gathered to kick off Pride Month with celebration and connection. The event highlighted the City’s ongoing commitment to supporting LGBTQ+ employees and advancing equity across all communities.

JuneteenthCelebration
On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, the city hosted a powerful Juneteenth celebration at Phoenix City Hall on behalf of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators Central Arizona Chapter. The event brought city leaders and employees together to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. Through meaningful celebration and brief remarks from the City Council, the evening honored Black history and highlighted the city’s continued commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

On Friday, June 27th, District 1 and District 3 teamed up for a joint community meeting at the DoubleTree by Hilton Phoenix North. From 8 to 9 a.m., residents gathered to hear from guest speakers from the Phoenix Police and Fire Departments, who shared valuable information about their safety programs. With breakfast and refreshments provided, the event offered neighbors a chance to connect, ask questions, and stay informed on public safety efforts in their community.

Yard Sign Pilot Program
The Yard Sign Pilot Program aims to influence safer driver behavior on neighborhood streets where children and other pedestrians are likely to be walking, jogging or bicycling. Residents and businesses are encouraged to plant a free sign on their property.
You can STILL pick up your sign in person at any one of five designated Parks and Recreation Department community centers:
Goelet A.C. Beuf -3435 W. Pinnacle Peak Rd.
Maryvale - 4420 N. 51st Ave.
Longview - 4040 N. 14th St.
Pecos- 17010 S. 48th St.
Cesar Chavez - 7858 S. 35th Ave.
Residents can also pick up a sign in person at Phoenix City Hall, 200 W. Washington St, 5th Floor.
The signs are free to the public and include a yard stake. Funding for the signs comes from money the Mayor and Council specifically set aside for road safety education and infrastructure improvements.
Lockbox Program
The City of Phoenix Lockbox Program allows firefighters to gain entry to your home in case of emergency without causing any damage to your residence. This is done by utilizing a key that you provide in a secure lockbox attached to your entryway. This program not only provides free lockboxes to those vulnerable Phoenix residents; it also allows those who already have their own lockbox in place to register their lockbox code with the fire department.
Free lockboxes are donated by the Phoenix Area Association of Realtors and are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to vulnerable Phoenix residents who are 55+, have special needs or mobility issues.

The City of Phoenix is offering heat relief by extending hours at three library locations and offering a 24-hour respite center. Now through Sept. 30, Phoenix will operate a 24-hour respite center at 20 W. Jackson St. Additionally, Yucca, Cholla, and Harmon libraries will stay open as cooling centers offering full library services Mondays through Saturdays until 10 p.m. On Sundays, these three locations will open as cooling centers from noon to 10 p.m.

City golf courses summer 2025 maintenance activities - verification notification
The Benefits of Aerification:
1. Aerification loosens soil that has been compacted by golfers' foot traffic and maintenance machines rolling over it.
2. This opens growing room for the roots and increases oxygen to the roots.
3. The roots of the turfgrass can grow deeper, creating a healthier putting surface.
4. Removes organic matter to reduce thatch and provide the conduit for incorporating sand into the greens.

KEY SAFETY TIPS:
Know what’s legal! Ground-based fireworks are allowed; anything that explodes or launches is not. Illegal fireworks can cause fires, injuries, and fines.
Not all fireworks are legal in Phoenix.
Sparklers, fountains, and smoke devices = ✅.
Anything that explodes, shoots into the air, or flies = ❌ and can result in a fine.

Soak used fireworks for 24 hours before discarding to ensure they don’t reignite in your trash can.

July City Council Meetings
The Phoenix City Council will have Formal Meetings on Wednesday, July 2nd at 10:00 a.m.
Members of the public can attend and speak in-person, by phone, or virtually via Webex. Pre-registration is required to speak on an agenda item or during the Public Comment period.
