Housing Repair and Rehabilitation Programs

Mrs. Cohen, a mother in the city of Phoenix, didn’t know her home had lead hazards until a friend told her about the Housing Rehab Programs. The program tested her home and provided support to make it safe. Today, she shares, “I trusted the program because everyone was super clear, helpful, and it felt like my family’s safety really mattered.”

Neighbors We Are Grateful For – Community Connection Highlight

Naomi Miike, Del Monte Village Garden Neighborhood Association

Naomi is a newer resident of Del Monte Village Garden, but she hit the ground running—getting to know her neighbors, learning the needs of her community, and building trust every step of the way. 

When Naomi moved into her Maryvale neighborhood and began making improvements to her own home, she didn’t hesitate to lend a hand to her neighbors as well. With a background in botany, she’s helped many residents with their yards and landscaping—long before she ever considered becoming a neighborhood leader.

Despite living in a primarily Spanish-speaking neighborhood and not speaking Spanish herself, Naomi never let language be a barrier. She found ways to connect, communicate, and build relationships through action, kindness, and consistency. When she learned of a neighbor who had been without air conditioning during the summer—too afraid to ask for help due to language barriers and fear—Naomi stepped in. She contacted her Neighborhood Specialist, secured a portable AC unit through the Tool Bank, picked it up in her own truck, and delivered it to the neighbor.

As the current neighborhood leader, she helped gate her own alley and supported others in doing the same. She organized meetings with City departments and community action officers to discuss neighborhood concerns. 

Naomi embodies what it means to be a neighbor we are truly grateful for. Her leadership, compassion, and commitment to her community are inspiring, and I’m excited to see her continue to grow and flourish.  Thank You, Naomi!

Help Address Homelessness in Our Community

If you have concerns about encampments in your neighborhood or frequently see individuals in the same general area who need resources or services, we encourage you to contact PHX C.A.R.E.S. 

PHX C.A.R.E.S is the City’s reporting system for residents to request encampment cleanups and to provide resources for people experiencing homelessness through a coordinated, multi-departmental response.

When Should You Report to PHX C.A.R.E.S? When a crime is NOT in progress and:

·  You see an encampment.

· You regularly see the same people in the same area experiencing homelessness and in need of services.

· You see homelessness-related debris.

· You see unattended personal belongings.

You can submit a report online 24/7 by visiting myPHX311: phoenix.gov/myphx311 or by calling: 602-262-6251 Monday-Saturday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Thunderbird Business Alliance Holds 2^nd Annual Trunk or Treat

The Thunderbird Business Alliance held its 2^nd Annual Trunk or Treat event on October 25, 2025. The free community event held at Home Depot, 2650 W. Thunderbird Road, was an opportunity for Thunderbird corridor stakeholders to showcase and promote local businesses. The event hosted over 400 guests who enjoyed an opportunity to trunk or treat, rumble in a bouncy house, play games, win raffle prizes, and get information on community resources and local businesses. Councilwoman Stark co-sponsored and attended the event along with other Thunderbird Road corridor businesses. The Thunderbird Business Alliance works to revitalize and support economic development along the Thunderbird Road corridor. They were the recipients of the Civic Engagement Award at this year’s Neighborhood Synergy Conference. For more information on Business Alliances in your area, contact your Neighborhood Specialist:

Attend the South Phoenix Health Fair  

The City of Phoenix Office of Public Health and City Councilwoman Kesha Hodge Washington are partnering with Black Girls Break Bread to host the South Phoenix Health Fair on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Broadway Heritage Neighborhood Resource Center, 2405 E. Broadway Rd., Phoenix. Attendees can receive free health services, resources, and support for the whole family—including mobile medical units, fresh produce, giveaways, and more. La Sra. Cohen, una madre de la ciudad de Phoenix, no sabía que su casa tenía peligros relacionados con el plomo hasta que una amiga le habló de los Programas de rehabilitación de viviendas. El programa revisó su casa y le proporcionó apoyo para que fuera segura. Hoy, ella comparte: “Confié en el programa porque todos fueron muy claros, atentos, y sentí que la seguridad de mi familia realmente importaba”.

Vecinos por los que estamos agradecidos – Un ejemplo de la conexión con la comunidad

Naomi Miike, Asociación de vecinos de Del Monte Village Garden

Naomi es una residente nueva de Del Monte Village Garden, pero se integró rápidamente, conociendo a sus vecinos, comprendiendo las necesidades de su comunidad y ganándose su confianza en cada paso del camino. 

Cuando Naomi se mudó a su barrio de Maryvale y comenzó a hacer mejoras en su propia casa, no dudó en ayudar también a sus vecinos. Con conocimientos en botánica, ha ayudado a muchos residentes con sus jardines y paisajismo, mucho antes de pensar en volverse una líder del barrio.

Aunque vive en un barrio donde la mayoría habla español y ella no lo habla, Naomi nunca dejó que el idioma fuera una barrera. Encontró maneras de conectar, comunicarse y crear relaciones mediante la acción, la amabilidad y la constancia. Cuando se enteró de que un vecino había estado sin aire acondicionado durante el verano, demasiado asustado para pedir ayuda debido a las barreras del idioma y al miedo, Naomi intervino. Se puso en contacto con su especialista en barrios, consiguió una unidad portátil de aire acondicionado por medio de Tool Bank, la recogió en su propia camioneta y la entregó al vecino.

Como líder actual del barrio, ayudó a poner una reja en su propio callejón y apoyó a otros a hacer lo mismo. Organizó reuniones con departamentos de la Ciudad y representantes de acción de la comunidad para hablar sobre las preocupaciones del barrio. 

Naomi representa lo que significa ser una vecina por la que estamos verdaderamente agradecidos. Su liderazgo, compasión y compromiso con su comunidad inspiran, y me emociona verla seguir creciendo y prosperando.  ¡Gracias, Naomi!

Ayude a atender la falta de vivienda en nuestra comunidad

Si le preocupa la presencia de campamentos en su barrio o si ve con frecuencia a personas en la misma área que necesitan recursos o servicios, lo animamos a comunicarse con PHX C.A.R.E.S . 

PHX C.A.R.E.S es el sistema de reportes de la Ciudad para que los residentes pidan la limpieza de campamentos y proporcionen recursos a las personas sin hogar mediante una respuesta coordinada de varios departamentos.

¿Cuándo debe reportar a PHX C.A.R.E.S? Cuando NO  se está cometiendo un delito y:

· Ve un campamento

· Ve con regularidad a las mismas personas en la misma área que están sin hogar y con necesidad de servicios

· Ve basura relacionada con personas sin hogar

· Ve cosas personales sin supervisión

Thunderbird Business Alliance celebra su 2.^o evento anual “Trunk or Treat”

Thunderbird Business Alliance celebró su 2.^o evento anual “Trunk or Treat” el 25 de octubre de 2025. El evento gratuito de la comunidad, celebrado en Home Depot, 2650 W. Thunderbird Road, fue una oportunidad para que las partes interesadas del corredor Thunderbird presentaran y promocionaran las empresas locales. El evento recibió a más de 400 invitados que disfrutaron la oportunidad de participar en el evento “Trunk or Treat”, divertirse en una casa inflable, participar en juegos, ganar premios de rifas y recibir información de recursos de la comunidad y empresas locales. La concejala Stark copatrocinó y asistió al evento junto con otras empresas del corredor de Thunderbird Road. Thunderbird Business Alliance trabaja para revitalizar y apoyar el desarrollo económico a lo largo del corredor de Thunderbird Road. Recibieron el Premio al compromiso cívico en la Conferencia de Sinergia Vecinal (Neighborhood Synergy Conference) de este año. Broadway Rd., Phoenix. Los asistentes pueden recibir servicios médicos gratuitos, recursos y apoyo para toda la familia, incluyendo unidades médicas móviles, productos frescos, obsequios y más.
