Christmas tree and wreath recycling banner

The Public Works Department offers Phoenix residents several drop-off locations for their live Christmas trees and wreaths to be composted. Trees or wreaths may be dropped off at any of the participating Phoenix parks (during park business hours) anytime between Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2023 and Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024. Only live trees and wreaths are accepted, not plastic trees and wreaths. Trees and wreaths will be composted at the City of Phoenix Compost Facility. Sunbelt Rentals

Phoenix Residents may bring their Christmas trees to Sunbelt Rentals locations during these dates:

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Tuesday, Dec. 26 to Friday, Jan. 5, 2024 (closed on Saturdays and Sundays)
Closed on New Year's Day, Monday, Jan. 1

* Trees accepted at no charge, but only one tree per household.
Trees must be free of decorations, lights, and stands.

Tree & Wreath Disposal Requirements

Bring the tree & wreath unbagged.
Remove all decorations, lights and tinsel.
Remove the tree stand and all nails/metal stakes.
Secure tree during transport. Tie it down with material that can be untied or cut easily.
Only dispose of trees or wreaths in marked drop-off areas.
Both transfer stations will accept up to two live trees from city of Phoenix residents. If residents wish to dispose of more than two, city of Phoenix customers with their city services bill and matching photo ID can use their one free load of up to 1 ton (2,000 pounds).

Tips to reduce waste during the holidays

Reuse gift bags and wrapping paper.
Turn paper shopping bags into a gift bag or wrapping paper; magazine pages or comics pages also make colorful gift wraps.
An alternative to gift bags is to use decorative reusable shopping bags as gift bags. They can be used all year long and are often less expensive than paper gift bags.
Donate past holiday decorations and lights instead of throwing them away.

Paper wrapping materials with no embossments, glitter and/or flocking
Cardboard boxes that gifts were packaged in, such as children’s toys and electronics
Hard plastics used for packaging foods, toys, electronics, etc.

Unacceptable Holiday Materials in Recycle Bin

Foil-embossed papers and any material with glitter
Plastic wrap from gift baskets, grocery shopping or packaging
Tissue paper
Photo greeting cards printed on photography paper
Food waste should be composted, not placed in your recycling bin. If composting is not an option, it should be bagged and tied and placed in your trash container
Polystyrene foam (Styrofoam) products, such as food packaging or drink ware or packing material
